Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain

Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain, explores the nearly 800 years of communal living of Christians, Muslims and Jews on the Iberian Peninsula. Aired originally on PBS, ACMCU and Unity Productions Foundation (UPF), hosted a special screening at Georgetown University as part of UPF's 20,000 Dialogues Initiative, a grassroots campaign encouraging interfaith dialogues across communities throughout the United States.

 

Cities of Light Executive Producer Alex Kromener, a veteran of several documentary film pieces including Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet, shares with guests his experiences in producing the film and his hopes for how its message might impact contemporary interfaith dialogue. 

 

 

 

 

 

Daniel Tutt, outreach coordinator with Unity Productions Foundation, leads a small group discussion following the screening. Using the film as a primer for conversation, participants were asked to share their own feelings of inter-religious engagement.

 

 

 

 

 

Guests had positive responses for the evening's format. A diverse mix of Georgetown students, faculty and staff, as well as many others from throughout metropolitan Washington ensured spirited and fruitful conversatiosn on typically sensitive topics.
