Abdullah Al-Amin Al-Arian

Abdullah Al-Arian is a graduate student in the Department of History at Georgetown University. His research interests include modern Islamic history, social movements, Islamic law and society, Islam and globalization, and the history of US policy toward the Muslim world. He received his MS in Sociology of Religion from the London School of Economics in 2003, where he wrote his dissertation on the history of American Muslim political institutions. He graduated from Duke University with a BA in political science and comparative area studies in 2002. He wrote his senior honors thesis on the subject of constitutional law, civil liberties and national security in times of war.

Farhan Mujahid Chak is a Visiting Researcher at the Prince Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. He completed his PhD from the School of Government and International Affairs at the University of Durham, United Kingdom, in 2007. His thesis was entitled ‘An Analysis of Political Culture for Understanding Political and Ideological Instability in Pakistan’ and is currently under review for publication. In addition, he has completed a Masters in International Politics and Strategic Studies from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta, Canada. Also, he is the first recipient of the Consortium for Middle East and Africa Diploma (CMEAS) at the University of Alberta, Canada.

Presently, he is working on an article entitled ‘La Convivencia’ dealing with the necessity of mutual harmony, acceptance and peaceful co-existence between Jews, Christians and Muslims. Other research interests include Islam and politics, political culture/stability and promotion of good governance, conflict resolution, political philosophy and international relations. Geographical research interests include the Mediterranean, Middle East, Central/South Asia and Latin America.
